Encountering Murshid: Session One
Encountering Murshid: Session Two
Do you wonder…
- Who is Hazrat Pir-O-Murshid Inayat Khan (often referred to as “Murshid”)?
- What constituted his life, his work, his legacy?
- Why do Taj and Gayan use Murshid’s teachings as the foundation for their own work?
To learn more about this Sufi Master, and how his teachings continue to be alive today, watch the recordings of thes two discourses. Taj prompts Sharif with thoughtful, incisive questions about Murshid, as Sharif unfolds the rich, complex and profound life of this early 20th century Sufi mystic.
Sharif Munawwir Graham began his immersion into Sufism when he first encountered Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan in Paradise (Arizona) in 1970. This meeting developed into a deep friendship which led him to work closely with Pir Vilayat on several of his books. During this period Sharif was also editing books of Pir-O-Murshid Inayat Khan (Pir Vilayat’s father).
In 1982 Sharif began working on “The Complete Works of Pir-O-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan”. This led him, in 1998, to move to Suresnes, the suburb of Paris where Murshid had lived with his family, and where Pir Vilayat lived. By diving deeply into the early documents, he became intimately familiar with every aspect of Murshid’s thinking and teaching.
During this presentation Sharif shares the fruit of this experience with us. He has given seminars in many places about Pir-O-Murshid and his teachings. Now he is starting a new career as a wandering Sufi storyteller.
Taj Inayat is a senior teacher in the Inayatiyya Sufi Order. She has been studying and meditating on the Sufi teachings of Spiritual Liberty of Hazrat Inayat Khan since she was initiated over fifty-five years ago. At times she feels she is beginning to get a taste of the hidden treasure, concealed in plain sight.
